NORWALK, Conn. – Duvian Montoya, a founder of the St. Philip's Artist's Guild, will soon be applying his talents to the South Norwalk train station tunnel.
Montoya, a Fairfield resident, is one of four artists chosen by the Norwalk Parking Authority to create permanent art installations for the station. The team of David Boyajian of New Fairfield, Matt Rink of Redding and Vincent Appel of New York City has been chosen to install their art in the lobby on the eastbound side. They will create a series of small aluminum sculptures that depict the sites, history and culture of Norwalk, including an oyster boat, lighthouse, hat and hatbox.
Montoya will be designing a mural of silhouetted figures depicting the transit history at the railroad station and the community.
The installation will be completed early next year and is funded through a grant provided by the Federal Transportation Enhancement Public Art Program.
The Norwalk Parking Authority is a financially self-sustaining organization responsible for the operation and maintenance of the municipal parking system in Norwalk. It is not financed by taxpayer dollars.
