Stamford Mayor David Martin, Economic Development Director Thomas Madden and the City of Stamford on Wednesday announced the launch of a new community calendar. Local groups can upload their calendars and events, and residents can use it to see what is happening in Stamford.

The calendar is one of the first major initiatives taken on by the newly established Arts & Culture Commission. It was created in conjunction with Burbio.com

Burbio.com is a free web service and iPhone app that will hold all local nonprofit, government, and school event calendar information.

“I have been hearing from local organizations that there is a need to have a more coordinated calendar to help with event planning and event promotion,” said Martin. “We have so many great events going on in Stamford every night! It will be useful to have all of that information in one central, online location, moving Stamford more into the digital age.”

The Arts & Culture Commission streamlined the process for local nonprofits and arts organizations to get their information onto the Burbio website.

“This is a fantastic opportunity to organize all of the events in our city, and reach out to new residents and our existing neighborhoods to showcase events within the city,” added Madden.

Burbio.com’s free service allows users to create a personal event feed by following Stamford groups of interest, adding events to their digital calendar, and getting notifications when events change.

In addition to the web and iPhone service, all events on Burbio are on Amazon Alexa, and built for discovery in Google searches.

“Burbio’s mission is to build community and civic engagement through technology and easy access to event information,” said Julie Roche, Burbio co-founder. “The variety of ways consumers can access the platform – mobile, Voice, search – makes it accessible for millenials, parents and longtime residents alike and is perfect for a vibrant regional hub like Stamford.”

The link will be placed on the City’s website soon, but can also be found by clicking here
