Heres a fun way to spend a few hours. And youll learn all about an icon of American architecture Philip Johnson . Johnson and his partner, David Whitney , lived for many years in New Canaan in one of his most famous designs, the Glass House .
The only way to visit the Glass House, which is now a National Trust for Historic Preservation site, is by buying a ticket for an official tour. Tours run from May through November and tickets always sell out quickly. People come from across the globe to see the house and view the art collected by Johnson and Whitney.
Tickets for the 2011 tours of Philip Johnsons Glass House went on sale at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 15. You have several options. Three, two-hour $45 tours focus on different aspects of the 47-acre site. You can see the architecture, the art or the landscape. Or all three if you buy tickets for each tour.
If you want more, book the $150 tour which will be led by important figures in the art and architecture world, including critic Paul Goldberger , architect Charles Renfro and Theodore H.M. Prudon , founder of Docomomo US, the Modernist preservation group.
