Take Action Against Hunger in September

Connecticut Food Bank has declared September to be “Hunger Action” month in Connecticut. More than 400,000 Connecticut residents are “food insecure,” according to CFB. A family who is “food insecure” usually doesn’t know where their next meal is coming from. Often, a “food insecure” family brings in too much income to qualify for government assistance, but not enough to feed its members.

CFB is hard at work to fill the pantries and stomachs of hungry children and their parents across the state, and they want you to take action this September, and throughout the year. How can you help? Hold a food drive in your neighborhood, school, work place or anyplace and encourage your community to give. You can volunteer your time at any of CFB’s warehouses. You can donate money, because for every dollar you give to CFB, they can turn it into five dollars when they purchase wholesale items. And you can talk—talk to your friends, your families, your communities, your hair dresser and anyone else who will listen. Tell them that according to CFB, one in six children in the State of Connecticut lives with food insecurity. And that’s too many hungry children.
