Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo is one of Connecticut’s top family attractions. Spend an hour or the whole day and see more than 300 animals representing species from North and South America.

New to zoo this summer are two giant anteaters, who have settled into the brand new Pampas Plains exhibit. The pair came from the Palm Beach Zoo in Palm Beach, Fla. The female is named Pana, and the male is named EO; Both are 6 years old. (Read more about the invasion of the anteaters here on the Daily Voice.)

In addition to giant anteaters, the new Pampas Plains South American exhibit features four Chacoan peccaries and two Greater rhea, as well as plants and grasses native to this South American region.

The zoo includes many other endangered and threatened species, which include the Amur (Siberian) tiger, Andean condor, Ocelot, Red wolf, Maned wolf and Golden lion tamarin.

Feeling hungry? Families can grab a bite at the Peacock Café or enjoy an outdoor lunch in the Picnic Grove.

The zoo also features a colorful carousel.

The Beardsley Zoo is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.

Admission is $14 for children 12 and up and adults and $11 for students and seniors. Children 3 and under are free.
