Summer Camp Gets Chic

For some kids, summer camp is more about sequins than sunscreen. Thanks to the New England Design and Fashion Association (NED + FA), these kids have a summer camp program all their own.

Marc Feldman and Irina Simeonova, co-chairs of the NED + FA, have based their school on the model of other professional fashion and design schools. Affiliated with the World Fashion Council, Feldman and Simeonova are dedicated to bringing top design instruction to students in South Norwalk. They regularly bring instructors from the Fashion Institute of Technology and Parsons School of Design and incorporate their expertise into NED + FA’s curriculum. The summer camp program began in 2008 and is currently as stylish as ever.

“It's about being different,” says Simeonova. “It's about finding yourself. It's about creating your own reality and making people fall in love with it."

Campers are encouraged to create their own designs from start to finish, and to not follow any sort of cookie-cutter programming. From concept to completion, kids are supported in creating wholly unique pieces.

The Fashion Lab summer camps are geared toward kids ages 11 to 19. These mini designers can sign up for week-long programs with a specific stylish focus. Green Fashion, Little Dress, All in the Jeans and a Day at the Beach are some of the design topics slated for this summer.
