WESTPORT, Conn. -- Did you know that Westport has its own town farm, which, thanks to the addition of a new kitchen space, is buzzing with community events?

In the past few weeks, Tim's Kitchen at Wakeman Town Farm hosted a sold-out Farm Dinner with Cask Republic Restaurant in South Norwalk, a luncheon for a women's empowerment group called B.I.G. (believe, inspire, grow), a blogger dinner for local grassroots entrepreneurs, a Greening our Children Coffee for Mount Sinai Hospital, a meeting with the National Charity League, a sales meeting for Moffly Media, plus a number of Teen Council meetings, school tours, and visits.

You don’t have to be a member to get involved. Anyone can come for a tour, get involved as a garden or animal care volunteer, help out at an event, or take a class.

“When we built Tim’s Kitchen, our new kitchen classroom at the farm, we envisioned a wide range of activities, and within the first few months of opening, we're proud to say the space is constantly teeming with activity," said Events Director Christy Colasurdo.

Tim's Kitchen opened in mid-July after a year of construction and immediately began hosting kids’ camps, programs, and events. The project was made possible by a grassroots team of volunteers who worked to raise the funds to create the new facility as well as various departments of the Town Of Westport, which supported the project through building, zoning, preservation, finance and more.

The new facility, which just received a Historic District Commission Award for Historic Preservation, was designed by local architect Peter Wormser, who gifted his time and talents to the project.

In November, new sessions will start, including Mommy & Me, Cooking Around the Globe, and Farm Table 101 Cooking, but, according to Events Director Christy Colasurdo, that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

On the horizon: Holiday Baking Classes including one for Thanksgiving, Chanukah and Christmas. In December, Tim's Kitchen will be also hosting a gingerbread-making event for kids, plus will hold an annual holiday tree lighting.

There will also be a Vacation Day Camp program, where the Farm Director will offer a day of activities for kids on days off like Election Day or MLK Day.

On Nov. 4, Tim's Kitchen is hosting a holiday hors d'oeuvres class that will provide participants with a new repertoire of appetizers for party season.
