Salad Bags Keep the Crunch in Your Lettuce

Even if you're wilting in the summer heat, your salad greens don't have to. Keep them crunchy by storing them in a produce or lettuce bag. Greens stored in cotton or microfiber bags will stay fresh much longer than if you keep them in plastic. Simply wash your greens, spin them dry and then store in the bag in your refrigerator.

You can make your own salad bag by folding a cotton dishtowel in two and running a seam along two sides. Leave an opening at one of the narrow ends. If you're not handy with a sewing machine, check out Crate & Barrel's produce bags, which come in a pack of five. Or try Simply Good Stuff's high-tech microfiber salad bag.
