Poll: Do You Believe In Groundhog Day, Norwalk?

update: FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- According to American folklore and movie pop culture, on Feb. 2, a groundhog emerges from his burrow in Punxsutawney, Pa., and predicts the weather for the rest of winter for Fairfield County and the entire nation.

And the news was bad this year: the groundhog, dubbed Punxsutawney Phil, decided Monday there will be six more weeks of winter, according to the Weather Channel

Even with his hometown under Winter Storm Warnings Monday and facing freezing rain, Phil emerged from his hole before a crowd of 30,000 people and was able to see his shadow.

If it had been cloudy, and he had failed to see his shadow, then spring would have come early. With the shadow, winter will continue for another six weeks.

The nation's largest Groundhog Day celebration, made famous in the Bill Murray movie of the same name, is held in Punxsutawney, although a few other towns, including Manchester, Conn., hold similar groundhog prediction rituals.

Relying on a groundhog to predict an early or late spring has become an American tradition, but do you actually believe it? Cast your vote!
