The company sponsored a food drive in conjunction with The Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County, which will deliver hundreds of fresh turkeys and a variety of canned goods to needy families.
Rich Cunningham, who owns Ed's Garage Doors, said companies he works with, including LiftMaster and Northwest Door, contributed 100 turkeys each. "They were eager to help," he said.
State Sen. Bob Duff, who represents Norwalk and Darien, dropped off a bag of provisions and complimented Cunningham on his efforts.
"A lot of people want to help but need to be directed on where to give. People will respond very generously because there's a lot of need out there," he said.
Cunningham was assisted in his effort by The First Tee, a youth development program that teaches golf skills to underprivileged kids. "We sent out emails to all the First Tee parents, asking them to donate," said Kyle Savard, who works with First Tee.
One of the parents was Mark Roman, from Easton, who dropped off a turkey and a check with his son Nicholas. "It's important to donate every year, but times are tougher this year because of the storm," he said.
Cunningham and his staff loaded turkeys into a delivery truck as donors arrived with more holiday fare.
