We pay money to be locked in rooms with others to figure out how to escape; books with mystifying brainteaser plots rise to the top of the bestseller charts; and Sudoku remains as popular today as it was when it hit newspapers in the mid-2000s. We like our puzzles.

Norwalk Now is counting on this for its first City Hunt through the city’s Wall Street and SoNo neighborhoods on Saturday, April 28. Participants meet up at 10:30 a.m. at O'Neill's Irish Pub on 93 North Main Street, “hunt” between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. and then hit the after party from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. (You'll have to solve the clues to find the after-party location.)

At $40 per player, teams of four (create your own ahead of time or meet-up at the event) will race around Norwalk to “solve the clue, complete the challenge and repeat.” Think “Amazing Race” on a much smaller scale.

The City Hunt is the brainchild of Norwalk Now, a marketing organization launched in October of 2017. Sponsored by the Norwalk Parking Authority, Norwalk Now is a non-profit organization with vested participation from Norwalk businesses and managed by Stamford-based MaxEx Public Relations, LLC.

According to Linda Kavanagh, founder and president of MaxEx, a City Hunt is a fun and interactive way to get to know a city.

“I have done these in various cities over the years and felt that Norwalk would be a great fit,” she said.

The goal of Norwalk Now, according to Kavanagh is simple: “We lend PR and marketing support to Norwalk businesses, which will then in turn promote and support Norwalk as a whole.

“All of our events are designed to bring people into the individual businesses or highlight them in a way that they will never get lost in the shuffle,” said Kavanagh.

“Norwalk Now is here to stay and our goal is to integrate this collaborative group into the fabric of the city.”

Several events are on the agenda, including a Happy Hour on the Harbor Series, Townwide Instagram Takeover, Night Owl Dining, CRUSH (beer/wine series), Family Affair (week-long family friendly events, menus and offers), and more.

What do residents get out of it? A centralized hub for information on events, contests, and promotions. The latest happenings. And a treasure hunt the likes of which the City has never seen before.
