“The first thing I do when I wake up is I run my coffee machine,” Boyd told the Daily Voice on Tuesday as she ordered her coffee at Dunkin' Donuts by the traffic circle in Fairfield.

But Tuesday she changed up her routine and visited Dunkin’ Donuts.

Boyd was one of the many Dunkin' customers who turned up to claim their free dark roast coffee in honor of National Coffee Day.

Boyd ordered her coffee with three shots of hazelnut, seven Splendas and regular cream after she approached a Daily Voice reporter and asked whether Dunkin' was, in fact, giving away free coffees Tuesday.

Boyd said she was excited to grab a free coffee as Dunkin' doesn’t have that promotion every day.

In a different corner of the store, another customer said he’s a Dunkin' Donuts diehard. But he wasn’t a huge fan of the new dark roast that Dunkin' was giving away.

The customer wished to remain anonymous because he was concerned he would not be invited back after talking with a Daily Voice reporter about his opinion on the blend.

“I know every Dunkin' Donuts in Connecticut and Colorado,” he said. Florida, too, he added.

But while said he enjoys Dunkin’s regular coffee, he wished he had stuck with his normal Dunkin’ Donuts coffee.

“It tastes too much like Starbucks,” he said.

On Tuesday, Dunkin’ Donuts restaurants across the country are offering a free medium cup of Dunkin’ Donuts hot or iced Rainforest Alliance Certified Dark Roast Coffee, according to Dunkin' Donuts' website.

The blends, which launched one year ago, use "a unique roasting process to create a bold flavor and smooth finish without the bitterness typically associated with most dark roast coffees," according to the website.
