My First Car Was A...

Do you remember your first car? Mine was what is now referred to as a "previously owned" 1969 Dodge Dart, with safety features that included a steering wheel that occasionally fell off at inopportune moments (such as when I was driving). I was 18 years old and loved every ugly brown inch of it, and was terribly proud when I put my purple " Kenyon College " sticker on its bumper. The car never made it as far as Ohio, but it lives on in my memory.

What was your first – or most memorable – car? Send me your stories, along with a photo, and I'll be happy to post them here.

Following is reader and Stamford resident, Meg Tocantins' story.

My first car was a teal blue 1962 Rambler Classic , with a push-button drive and seats that reclined all the way back. This was 1980. When I was about 13, my mother told me she'd buy me a car if I didn't get married before I graduated from college. She died three years later, but someone gave me the Rambler a week before my twenty-second birthday -- after my graduation and years before I got married. It was a fabulous, FABULOUS car! Makes you wonder, doesn't it?

Please share your favorite first-car stories, along with a photo, to me. I'm eager to post them in the "Wheels" section. You can leave comments here, or email me, at jcurtis@mainstreetconnect.us.
