Do you remember your first car? Mine was what is now referred to as a "previously owned" 1969 Dodge Dart, with safety features that included a steering wheel that occasionally fell off at inopportune moments (such as when I was driving). I was 18 years old and loved every ugly brown inch of it, and was terribly proud when I put my purple " Kenyon College " sticker on its bumper. The car never made it as far as Ohio, but it lives on in my memory.
What was your first or most memorable car? Send me your stories, along with a photo, and I'll be happy to post them here.
Following is reader and Stamford resident, Meg Tocantins' story.
My first car was a teal blue 1962 Rambler Classic , with a push-button drive and seats that reclined all the way back. This was 1980. When I was about 13, my mother told me she'd buy me a car if I didn't get married before I graduated from college. She died three years later, but someone gave me the Rambler a week before my twenty-second birthday -- after my graduation and years before I got married. It was a fabulous, FABULOUS car! Makes you wonder, doesn't it?
Please share your favorite first-car stories, along with a photo, to me. I'm eager to post them in the "Wheels" section. You can leave comments here, or email me, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
