DARIEN, Conn. -- Modern folk artist Nobu is displaying her artwork at Darien Rowayton Bank in Darien for the month of August with a portion of the proceeds being donated to the Darien Chamber Charitable Foundation.

The foundation is responsible for putting up the holiday lights in Darien during the holiday season and relies on donations to make the magic happen. In addition, the Foundation awards scholarships to local deserving students.

Nobu is a native of Tokyo. After graduating from college with a degree in psychology, she went on to work for a major Japanese cosmetics company in marketing research. She eventually moved to Nashville, where she fell in love with American Folk Art. From there, she started studying decorative painting, a style that makes heavy use of patterns and is painted mostly on wooden surfaces.

She moved to Darien in 2003 and adapted her unique Modern Folk Art style painting to scenes of the New England countryside and the towns of Darien, New Canaan and Rowayton. She has designed the cover of the Darien Parks and Recreation Department brochure since 2008 in addition to helping local nonprofits have raise money off her work. She has established herself as one of the most recognizable and beloved artist in Darien.

The Darien Rowayton Bank is located at 1001 Post Road, Darien. For more information, call 203-656-3500 or visit the website .
