Make Your Own Detergent

If you’ve ever read the list of ingredients in the detergents we use in our homes, you've probably scared yourself to death. Sounds more like a chemical brew than soap. Some of the chemicals in those commercial detergents are considered harmful to the environment, so they can’t be good for us either. Yet we continue to use them to wash our clothes and clean our homes.

Here’s a recipe for making your own detergent. It’s quick and easy to make, and you can get most of the ingredients at your local hardware store.

You’ll need a bar of soap, two cups of Borax, half a cup of citric acid, two cups washing soda. Grate the bar of soap. Bring one quart of water to a boil and stir in grated soap until completely dissolved. Pour soapy water into a two-gallon bucket. Add the Borax, washing soda and citric acid. Add two gallons of water and stir. Cover the pot with a lid and use as needed. Get more useful tips here .
