FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. – Aug. 13 is designated as National Left Handed Day in Fairfield County and throughout the nation. To celebrate, here's some fun facts about left-handers.

  • Three of the last four presidents, including Barack Obama, have been left-handed.
  • Left-handers tend to draw characters and figures facing to the right.
  • Left-handers tend to excel in tennis, baseball, swimming and fencing.
  • Some famous left-handed athletes include swimmer Mark Spitz, baseball legend Babe Ruth, and basketball players Bill Russell and Chris Mullin.
  • One in four Apollo astronauts were left-handed. That's 250 percent higher than normal.
