NORWALK, Conn. This weekend is the fifth annual Silvermine House tour, which highlights historic homes in Norwalk, Wilton and New Canaan.
The tour is less a quick walk-through than it is a daylong course in real local history. The featured homes all staffed by volunteers well versed in each house's history add their own chapters to Silvermine's storied past.
The tour takes place Saturday, Sept. 15, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and includes six unique homes, as well as an art exhibit: "The Cartoonists of Silvermine: Past and Present, which features nearly 70 reproductions of pieces by prominent local cartoonists.
Three of the historic dwellings, built in the 1800s, are located on the Silvermine River in New Canaan. One was originally a cider mill, another a carriage house and the third a blacksmiths shop.
Tickets are $75 for members of the Norwalk Association for Silvermine Homeowners (NASH) and $85 for nonmembers. Proceeds benefit historic and neighborhood conservation efforts.
There is also a preview party Friday, Sept. 14, from 7 to 9 p.m.
