Get Your Gourmet to Go

You’re late and in a rush, trying to get across town from the gym to your next appointment and you’re so hungry, you feel like you might pass out at the next red light. You need something to eat that’s fast and easy, and would rather not throw away the 45 minutes you just spent on the elliptical machine eating a week’s worth of calories in one sitting.

Does this sound familiar?

Where can you find something good, good for you and in a to-go container? In Westport, Wild Pear is a terrific option. Wild Pear’s refrigerated cases greet you on entry and are packed with fresh salads, wraps and paninis, and a soup bar lines the opposite wall.

“We make everything from scratch,” employee Dania Jimenez says proudly. “Everything. People really love our paninis. And our soups.” But with more than half a dozen soups to choose from on a given day, is there one that stands out?

“Definitely the turkey chili,” Dania and her fellow employee, Laurie Stevens, say in unison. I can’t help but laugh, because Wild Pear’s turkey chili is hands down my favorite soup they have.

“We add a lot of cold berry soups in the summertime,” Laurie says. Once the weather finally warms up, those chilled soups will be the perfect accent to Wild Pear’s outdoor patio seating.

“We also do breakfast,” says Laurie. “Omelettes and pastries. And our egg sandwiches are really popular. Probably because we use real eggs. So many places these days don’t use real eggs. We do.”

Whether you’re hungry in the morning or afternoon, Wild Pear has a homemade, satisfying option for you. They cater, too, which means you can spread the deliciousness around.

Wild Pear is located at 44 Church Lane in Westport.
