NORWALK, Conn. -- Avid fans nearly turned the Total Wine and More in Norwalk into a "Ghostbusters" convention on Saturday when actor Dan Aykroyd visited the store.

Aykroyd, also well known for his roles in "The Blues Brothers," "Trading Places" and "Saturday Night Live," was in Norwalk to promote his line of vodka, Crystal Head.

Dozens of fans lined up out the door of the store to see Aykroyd, some for almost three hours. Nearly 20 fans were dressed up in full "Ghostbusters" costumes and Aykroyd was more than willing to sign autographs and take pictures with fans.

Even the Total Wine employees got into the, ahem, spirit of the afternoon with each one dressed up like Aykroyd's character from "The Blues Brothers."

"It's a great opportunity," Aykroyd said. "When you do a movie, you have the red carpet, but you don't meet anybody. Over the years I've been able to put good music in people's ears, good entertainment in their eyes and hopefully get their diaphragms moving with laughter."

Total Wine manager Tom Perry was excited to get Aykroyd's fans involved with the event when he heard the actor would be coming to Norwalk.

"He's been going to several of these events in our franchise and every single one he's been fantastic with the fans," Perry said. "We actually went on 'Ghostbusters' fan websites and told them 'Guess who's coming?'"

As an actor, musician and writer, Aykroyd is now hoping to provide an award-winning vodka to them as well, he said. Crystal Head recently won the gold medal for the 15th International Tasting Contest at the 2013 PRODEXPO Exhibition in Moscow, Russia.

"If Russians don't know good vodka, who does?" Aykroyd joked. "We've sold more than 3 million bottles in the 32 countries. It's been a dream project and we're really punching through."

Aykroyd explained that his vodka goes through a unique quadruple distilling process that includes the spirit being filtered over Herkimer diamonds .

Aykroyd, a well-known supporter in the supernatural, believes that the Herkimer diamonds have extraterrestrial origin and they give his vodka "positive psychic energy."

"Your chemistry teacher might say pouring vodka over diamonds does absolutely nothing," Aykroyd said. "But I believe that the Herkimer diamond does act to produce a 'psychic flavor' to our vodka."
