Grab your spoons, Fairfield County, because this weekend Chilifest serves up a heaping helping of spicy goodness. On Saturday, Oct. 29, chefs from all over the county will heat things up and battle for the Best in Chili title, and you get to be the judge.
The list of participants is as varied as their recipes. Usual suspects such as Bobby Qs and Ash Creek Saloon go pot-to-pot with surprises, including Chef Pietro Scotti of Da Pietros and Chef Chris Noth of Rowayton Seafood . And the emergence of award-winning Chef Peter Weberg of Chili Bomb , a hybrid between concept restaurant and takeout joint with a shiny new Fairfield locale, is sure to spice things up.
"Chilifest is a couple years in the making," Chilifest and Chowdafest creator Jim Keenan said in a statement. Each year, our participating Chowdafest restaurants ask to enter a chili so we decided to try an event dedicated to just chili instead. If Chilifest is half as popular as Chowdafest has become, we should have another hit on our hands.
The Chilifest smack-down happens Saturday, Oct. 29, from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Unitarian Church located at 10 Lyons Plains Road in Westport. Tickets are $6 for adults, and $2 for kids ages 5 to 17.
