STAMFORD, Conn. -- Currently playing at Stamford’s Avon Theater, is the film Chef, a hope-filled, heart-warming, Indie film from the guy who gave us the first two Iron Man films.

It is about a Miami-born Chef Carl Casper (Jon Favreau, who also wrote and directed) who gets into a beef with the owner of the LA restaurant where he is employed over the menu that he wants to serve when a very popular and influential food critic (Oliver Platt) is coming.

Given the choice to cook what he is told (which is creatively killing him), or develop new and interesting dishes, he chooses to quit. Now he is left to figure out what he should do next.

Casper is also attempting to connect with 10-year-old son, Percy (Emjay Anthony), and his ex-wife, Inez (Vergara).

With nothing to do, and no prospects in sight, he travels with Inez and Percy to Miami to visit her father. While there, Casper acquires a food truck from Marvin (Robert Downey, Jr.) Inez’s ex-husband, and joined by Casper’s friend Martin (John Leguizamo) and Percy they begin to sell to cubanos.

The food truck does so well that they take to the road, driving it back to LA as Chef Carl rediscovers his creative roots as he reignites his passion for the kitchen, his zest for life and love of his son.

The Avon Theater is located at 272 Bedford St., Stamford.

Chef : “R” (115 minutes) stars Jon Favreau, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, John Leguizamo, and Sofia Vergara. It is directed by Jon Favreau
