NORWALK, Conn. – Once you've paid to see "Iron Man 3" in theaters this weekend, you can get another comic book fix for free on Saturday at Heroes Comics & Cards in Norwalk.
Heroes Comics and other local comic book stores will participate in Free Comic Book Day on May 4. The event takes place on the first weekend in May each year, usually timed with the first major comic book movie release of the year. In this case, the day coincides with the opening weekend for the Robert Downey, Jr.-starring "Iron Man" sequel.
“My customers look forward to this event, and well, who am I to say no?” said Dave Kruseski, the Norwalk store’s owner, in a statement.
The offer for a free book doesn’t apply to all comics. But each publisher has offered one or more titles – more than 50 in all – for customers to choose from.
This year, the comic book companies that are providing comicbooks include: Bongo (the Simpsons), Dark Horse (Star Wars), Marvel (a pair of Avenger tie-ins, one featuring Thanos, and the other featuring the Hulk), VIZ (It’s An Ugly Doll), Kaboom, Ape Entertainment, United Plankton Pictures (Spongebob Squarepants), DC (one featuring Superman and another with Batman and the Teen Titans), Papercutz (Smurfs), Idea & Design Works (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), Image (The Walking Dead), Archie, Dynamite Entertainment (Damsels), Valiant (Harbinger Wars) and many, many more.
Free Comic Book Day in Norwalk runs from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday at Heroes Comics & Cards, 197 Westport Ave.
