Earth's Care, which can be found in Whole Foods stores in Darien, Danbury, Fairfield, Greenwich and Westport, offers the following tips for "greening" your beauty routine.

Skip long ingredient lists: Anything you put on your skin goes in your body.Avoid products that list parabens, artificial fragrance or colors, petrolatum, phthalates, and sodium lauryl sulfate.

Separate products for skin, hair and body: The more products you're using, the more chemicals you may be putting in your body. Switch to a versatile product such as avocado oil. A single bottle can be used as a hair conditioner, face and body moisturizer.

Support companies who share your “green” values: For a product to be truly green, look beyond the ingredient list. Is the product packaged with recyclable materials? Does the company believe in giving back?

Cut back on your water consumption: Earth’s Care, based in Long Beach, Calif., is acutely aware of how water consumption affects the environment. When using tissues to apply makeup or to wipe off excess product, be sure to dispose of the tissue in the trash. Every time you flush one, five to seven gallons of water gets wasted.
