The parade steps off from the gallery at 855 Main St., at 7:30 p.m. led by Lady Blaze, rainbow clad stilt walker. In addition to the parade, the nights events include the opportunity for attendees to collaborate and create banners and flags with other while enjoying music, drink and light refreshments.
Stroll over to adjacent McLevy Green to enjoy the swinging sounds, Salsa and Bolero of the Latin music group Vinny and Ray with Orquesta Afinke.
"It's particularly fitting that it's Latin Night at the live music series because the Pride Walk, in part, honors the victims of the Orlando nightclub shootings, many of whom were Latino," said Suzanne Kachmar, executive director of City Lights.
The walk and exhibition also reflect the current debate over public restrooms and gender, she said.
This year's SameSex exhibit, which runs through Aug. 19, explores LGBTQ themes, feelings and issues of 2016. Artists need not be gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender to participate. The prospectus is designed to be open to interpretation, encouraging artists to respond the current events and zeitgeist of the year.
The gallery has extended the submission deadline a few weeks to support those who would like to express their solidarity, condolence, pride, outrage in response to the most recent tragedy in Orlando.
Among the artists in this year’s exhibit are: Sue Czark, Jeanine Esposito, Ken Hopkins, Stefan Novotny, Ricky Mestre and Richard Taddei.
