Cerrato specializes in upper cervical chiropractic, focusing on the two vertebrae closest to the brain stem. Misalignment of these vertebrae can lead to dysfunctions throughout the body, Cerrato says, including neck and back pain, migraines, asthma, digestive issues and neurological conditions.
"Chiropractic is all-encompassing. The nervous system controls everything in your body," he said.
Cerrato uses thermal imaging to examine his patients and see whether they have any nerve interference causing pressure in their spinal cord. He then performs adjustments to their spine and allows them to rest before remeasuring them. He said it can take some time for the conditions to be resolved but relieving nerve interference can have a tremendous effect.
"We don't treat symptoms, what we do is allow the body to function normally. If the body is functioning normally, it can heal itself," Cerrato said.
He is originally from Bridgeport, and had been living in Rome when he met a chiropractor who was also from Bridgeport. Cerrato had been interest in natural health, and became intrigued by chiropractics.
He received his degree from Life Chiropractic College West in California, and then practiced in Rome. He recently returned to the United States and set up his practice in Norwalk, which celebrated its grand opening Wednesday.
"I love it, I love to adjust people," Cerrato said.
While living in Italy, an earthquake hit the city of Aquila in 2009. He quickly responded to the area, and visited weekly for three months to provide free chiropractic care for victims and relief workers.
Align Chiropractic is located at 153 East Ave. in Norwalk and is open Mondays through Fridays from 9 a.m. to noon and 2 to 8 p.m. and on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
