YWCA Darien/Norwalk Presents 'How To Care For Your Young Athlete'

DARIEN, Conn. – YWCA Darien/Norwalk Parent Awareness and the Darien Library will present the free panel “How to Care for Your Young Athlete” on Tuesday, Jan. 13.

Four area physicians and health-care specialists will speak in a panel format, addressing topics such as how common are injuries from overuse, if and when a child should focus on one point, what foods are most beneficial for maximum health and athletic performance, and current alternative remedies for pain.

The four speakers scheduled are as follows:

  • Dr. Jennifer Cohn, fellow at the Center for Integrative Medicine and Wellness. 
  • Rebecca Petersen, motion analysis program coordinator at the Orthopedic and Spine Institute at Chelsea Piers and certified athletic trainer.
  • Gavin Pritchard, outpatient registered dietitian with Population Health and Prevention at Stamford Hospital.
  • Dr. Daniel Zelazny, assistant professor of orthopaedic surgery at New York Medical College and orthopaedic surgeon at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, N.Y., Stamford Hospital, and Phelps Memorial Hospital in Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.

The event will be held at 7 p.m. in the community room of the Darien Library at 1441 Post Road.
