NORWALK, Conn. – This weekend there will be a historical re-creation of Norwalk during the Civil War, a dog adoption event and a meeting for members of the Haitian community. Here’s what’s happening this weekend:
Friday, Aug. 17
Mammography Screenings: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Stamford Hospital Mobile Wellness Center will be on hand for mammograms. Insurance is accepted, and there is no cost for women who are uninsured and low income. Calf Pasture Beach.
Family Concert with Deirdre: 10 a.m. Young children can join Deirdre for songs, puppets and action rhymes. Norwalk Public Library, 1 Belden Ave.
Saturday, Aug. 18
Lightfoot Summer Series Race: 8 a.m. Lightfoot Runners hosts an 11-mile race. Registration is $5. The race will begin at Silvermine School, 157 Perry Ave.
Summer Reading Finale: 11:30 a.m. Squeaky Clean, an oldies rock band, will perform “Reading Rocks” at the finale party for the summer reading program. Norwalk Public Library, 1 Belden Ave.
Civil War Encampment and Barbecue: 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Civil War re-enactors from the 11th Regiment Connecticut Voluntary Infantry will perform demonstrations and drills that recreate life during the Civil War. There also will be exhibits titled “Civil War Battle Art” and “Norwalk and the Civil War,” as well as barbecue from local vendors. Mill Hill Historical Park, 2 E. Wall St.
Haitian Community Meeting: 1 p.m. There will be a meeting between Haitian General Consul Charles Forbin and members of the Haitian community. Norwalk Public Library, 1 Belden Ave.
Norwalk High School Alumni Association Summer Bash: 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. This summer bash and fundraiser which will feature Michael DePalma and the Tri-State discussing the history of Norwalk High School football, and the Class of 1981's Tim Hayes and Tommy Taliercio's band T&T Dreamin. Donation is $20 per person, which gets a free drink and benefits the Norwalk High School Alumni Association. O'Neill's Pub, 93 N. Main St.
Sunday, Aug. 19
Tails of Courage Adoption Event: Noon to 2 p.m. There will be lots of dogs and puppies to meet for adoption. Applications to adopt a dog will be available to fill out. Petsmart, 525 Connecticut Ave.
