Upcoming Events, Programs Set At YWCA Darien/Norwalk

DARIEN, Conn. – There are a number of activities scheduled at the YWCA Darien/Norwalk for the month of October.

Registration is under way for the fall 2014 and winter 2015 Paddle Tennis season, and is open to Y members and their spouses, on a first-come, first-served basis. The courts are at Weed Beach. For more information and to register, visit the website at ywcadariennorwalk.org

Job search support via Microsoft Word and Excel classes are scheduled for day and evening on Thursdays, beginning Oct. 16. Keyboarding and typing classes will be Tuesdays and Thursdays. The full schedule is online at ywcadariennorwalk.org/jss.

The YW also offers one-on-one resume writing assistance and job search strategy and coaching, along with Microsoft Office tutoring. For more information, call 203-655-2535 or email Kate Foster at kfoster@ywcadariennorwalk.org.

YW memberships may now be renewed online at ywcadariennorwalk.org for the 2014-15 year. Membership dues will now include access to all clubs at the YW – Inspire, International Club, Network of Working Women, Newcomers Club and playgroups.

  • Oct. 15 – Parent Awareness: Discipline and Consistent Parenting with Susan O’Brien, co-sponsored with Rowayton Nursery Schools. In the Co-Community Room, Rowayton Library, 33 Highland Ave., Norwalk
  • Oct. 22 – Parent Awareness: Executive Function & Organization with Tim Heitzman of the Southfield Center, and co-sponsored with Tokeneke PTO, at 7 p.m. at Tokeneke Elementary School, 7 Old Farm Road, Darien
  • Oct. 23 – Darien Chamber of Commerce 10th Annual Wine Tasting & Charity Auction to benefit local non-profits, including the YW. 6-9 p.m. at BMW of Darien, 140 Ledge Road, Darien
  • Oct. 28 and 30 – The YW is partnering with EDC Educational Services to have a Book Drive/Toddler Book Fair to benefit Books2Connect, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at YWCA Darien/Norwalk, 49 Old Kings Highway North, Darien

The YW is also planning for the Sixth Annual Cookies, Cocktails & a Cause, set for Dec. 4 at Nielsen’s Florist & Garden Shop, 1405 Post Road, Darien.
