A smash-hit on both sides of the Atlantic, this powerful tale of a deaf, mute and blind pin-ball player who becomes an international messiah, now bursts on the stage in this multi-award winning adaptation of the original chart-topping rock album. Hit songs include "Pinball Wizard," and "See Me, Touch Me." Peter Townshend’s tale of a young boy’s journey from pain to triumph is the most electrifying evening of rock and roll ever to play in this local theater.
"I'm thrilled to have this fabulous show as part of our season," said Lou Ursone, Curtain Call executive director. "I saw the original Broadway production twice and was amazed at how well the album translated to the stage, so I'm really looking forward to letting area audiences enjoy the show as I did," he added.
Ursone noted that Peter Green -- a first-time Curtain Call director -- has been working with the large cast since November and they are ready for an audience. "I’ve been blessed with the opportunity to listen to and gaze at this cast of performers. After two months of hard work, they’re ready for you to get the music and the story," said Green.
"I've worked with Peter on several shows but never with him as a director, so I was very happy that he was available for this production," Ursone said.
Green said, "As a director, there are two ideas in The Who’s Tommy that I find to be important. The first is the idea that extreme circumstances - sickness, for example - can be the springboard to a wealth of perspective and extraordinary insight. For Tommy, the years of sensory deprivation give him the opportunity to experience the second important idea - that our connection to other people is what matters most."
Tommy, which was first performed by The Who in 1969, was originally conceived by Townshend and Kit Lambert with contributions to the development by John Entwhistle, Keith Moon and Roger Daltrey.
Joining Green on the production team are Eric K. Johnston as music director, Emily Frangipane as choreographer, Peter Barbieri Jr. in set design, and Megan Latte in costume design. The cast of 30 includes: Joy Arzaga, Kyle Arzaga, Chris Balestriere, Jeff Bianco, Arielle Boutin, Lucas Cafaro, Sara DeFelice, Stephen Emerick, Scott Ferrara, Marie Fulda, Lauren Gulliver Travers, Bob Kline, Tessa Kurtz, Dena Langonigro, Anthony Malchar, Jenny Maso, Matthew McArthur, Michael McArthur, Betty McCready, Jourdan Miller, Karen Joyce, Savannah Miller, Jason Moon, Rob Nichols, Zully Ramos, Carol Rubin Shwidock, LaMarr Taylor, Dan Travers, Wil Trebing and Bill Warncke.
"The Who's Tommy" will play in The Kweskin Theatre from Feb. 2 through 18, Thursday through Saturday evenings at 8 p.m. and Sunday afternoons at 2 p.m.
