The play, a compelling look at the delicate art of arms negotiations between a Russian and an American, was the first play produced by the company in 1990. In spite of 25 intervening years, Square One Theatre feels not much has changed.

“In light of what’s still taking place in the world today among the United States, Russia and other countries, we’re reviving this still-timely dramatic comedy hailed as ‘a brilliant and funny play of ideas concerning the historic conversations between an American negotiator and a Russian diplomat,'” said Artistic Director Tom Holehan.

The surprise twist to this production is that local actor Pat Leo, from Monroe, who played the American negotiator in the 1990 production, is back, this time cast as the older Russian diplomat, Andrey Botvinnik. Making his Square One debut as the American negotiator John Honeyman is Damien Long from Norwalk.

This important play is not only a compelling piece of dramatic literature – it touches on issues of nuclear disarmament, the art of negotiation, and the political history and relationship between the U.S. and Russia -- but it's a cross-curricular jackpot that students can enjoy and learn from. As part of its ongoing educational programs Square One Theatre recently hosted 200 high school students to a special performance of the show.

"A Walk in the Woods" runs through Nov. 22 at the Stratford Theatre, 2422 Main St. in Stratford. Performances are Fridays and Saturdays, Nov. 14, Nov. 15, Nov. 21, Nov. 22 at 8 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 16 at 2 p.m. and a special twilight matinee on Saturday, Nov. 22 at 4 p.m.. Tickets are $20 for adults, $19 for seniors and students. Call 203-375-8778 or visit www.squareonetheatre.com.
