NORWALK, Conn. -- World-class saxophonist Jim Clark will present a salute to the contributions of the greatest African American saxophone masters, and how they shaped jazz in a performance at the Norwalk Public Library on Sunday, Feb. 21.

The program, "Ten Greatest African American Jazz Saxophonists," is equal parts performance and presentation, and will explore the music of Cannonball Adderley, Sidney Bechet, John Coltrane, Dexter Gordon, Coleman Hawkins, Charlie Parker, Sonny Rollins, Grover Washington, Jr., Ben Webster and Lester Young.

Clark will reveal how their contributions have influenced the music and musicians, who came after them. He will perform to pre-recorded tracks, and provide back-story information about the featured artists.

In addition to being a saxophonist, and multi-instrumentalist, Clark leads his own groups, playing tenor, alto and soprano sax, and performs and records in a wide variety of musical settings and styles.

The performance will begin at 3 p.m. To learn more about Jim Clark, visit his website .

For further information and to register for this program, please contact Cynde Bloom Lahey, Director of Library Information Services, at 203-899-2780 ext. 15133, or clahey@norwalkpubliclibrary.org.
