Norwalk's Maritime Aquarium Offers Several October Programs

NORWALK, Conn. – Families can help feed breakfast to the animals while future marine biologists learn about sea creatures through programs this month at The Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk.

  • Tuesday through Nov. 10 – Seal Pups is a five-part series meeting from 1-1:45 p.m. every Tuesday. Pre-schoolers, ages 3 and 4, will participate with a parent or caregiver. They get a weekly up-close meeting with a live animal, a story that relates to the week’s topic and other activities. Cost for the series is $125 for a child and caregiver; $110 for members. 
  • Sunday, Oct. 18 – Feeding Time is a program from 8-10 a.m., where families enjoy a light breakfast in the aquarium’s café and then join the marine biologists on stops of their morning rounds. Participants take a turn feeding several sea creatures and watch the feeding of the large sharks. Cost is $50 per adult and $25 per child 12 and younger, $45 and $20 for aquarium members. Children must be at least 5 years old. 
  • Sunday, Oct. 18 – Shark Safari from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., children ages 8-10 examine shark jaws, skin and other artifacts, and learn how superb adaptations have allowed sharks to survive for millions of years. Cost is $25 per child, $20 for members. This is a drop- off program; parents or caregivers do not participate. 
  • Sunday, Oct. 25 – A House for Hermit Crab is from 10-10:45 a.m. and uses the popular Eric Carle story in connecting pre-schoolers, ages 3 and 4, with a variety of live crabs and mollusks. They examine how the creatures look and feel and classify them according to size, shape, movement styles. Cost: $25 per child, $20 for members. Child must be accompanied by an adult. 
  • Sunday, Oct. 25 –Turtle Town, from 1-2 p.m., invites children ages 5-7 to compare turtles of land and sea to discover how the creatures are adapted to their different lifestyles. Cost is $25 per child, $20 for members. This is a drop-off program; parents or caregivers do not participate.
