This festival was open to students at all levels who have at least two years of private study and have not yet graduated high school. On Saturday, the festival consisted of four different levels which serve to encourage and recognize the talented young musicians in Fairfield County.

The Concerto Competition portion was held on Sunday. The judges were impressed with all of the nearly 70 performers who participated across the four levels. It is hoped that, as the students mature and continue with their studies, they will be back next year. Paz Meyers won the Junior Level Competition, playing "Elegie" by Faure and a Bach Courante. Wujin Kim won the Senior Level with the 1st movement of Saint-Saens' "Concerto No 1 for Cello."

Jingyi (or "Jenny" as she is called by her friends) Yang was the Concerto Competition Winner of this year's festival. She will perform Cecile Chaminade's "Concertino for Flute and Orchestra" at the Norwalk Symphony Family Concert on March 8 at 3 p.m. at the Norwalk Concert Hall. On the program are Gustav Holst's "Jupiter," from "The Planets," and John Williams' "Imperial March," from the "Star Wars" movie with symphony musicians sitting side-by-side with youth symphony members, and Mozart's "Symphony No. 41-Jupiter."

Tickets for the concert are available at www.norwalksymphony.org through the 'Buy Tickets' link, by emailing info@norwalksymphony.org or by calling (203) 956.6771.
