Norwalk Symphony Hosts Kids Program, Season Finale

NORWALK, Conn. -- The Norwalk Symphony Orchestra's (Not) Just for Kids program will feature local percussionist Damon Grant on Saturday, May 9.

This program is designed to introduce children ages 3 to 10 to what the instruments of the orchestra can do and give them an opportunity to try them out. This free, one-hour program will be presented at the Wilton, New Canaan and Norwalk libraries as follows:

  • 11 a.m., Wilton Library, 137 Old Ridgefield Road, 203-762-3950.
  • 1:30 pm New Canaan Library, Lamb Room, 151 Main St., 203-594-5000.
  • 3 p.m. Norwalk Public Library auditorium, 1 Belden Ave., 203-899-2780.

Also, the Norwalk Symphony will present the final concert of its 75th anniversary season on Saturday, May 16, at 8 p.m., at the Norwalk Concert Hall at Norwalk City Hall, 125 East Ave., Norwalk.

It will premiere Composer Michel Galante's Chamber Concerto No.1, featuring two marimba soloists. Tchaikovsky's "Variations on a Rococo Theme," with local and world-renowned cellist Allison Eldredge, and Beethoven's Symphony No. 7 are also on the program. 

There will be a pre-concert talk with Jonathon Yates, conductor and musical director, and Galante at 7 p.m. Tickets for the Season Finale are available by emailing info@norwalksymphony.org or by calling 203-956-6771. 

The Norwalk Symphony and the Food Pantry of Norwalk Community College will be teaming again to help feed people in need. Patrons are asked to bring and donate one the following items: cereal, rice, fruit cups or canned fruit, personal care items, sugar, flour, oil, and baking powder or baking soda. Also welcome are dry soups, powdered or canned milk, macaroni and cheese, peanut butter, beans, canned vegetables, tuna, canned meats, stew, soup, pasta, and fruit juices/sip-sized juices.
