Norwalk’s Mt. Zion Baptist Hosts Women’s Day, One-Woman Show

NORWALK, Conn. – The Women's Ministry at Mt. Zion Baptist Church will celebrate its 75th Annual Women’s Day at the 10 a.m. service Sunday, Sept. 14 at the church at 96 S. Main St.

The guest preacher for the event is the Rev. Alpha Middleton from Mt. Calvary Word of Faith Church in Raleigh, N.C., where Dr. Shirley Caesar-Williams is pastor.

The Women’s Ministry, with guidance from the group’s president, Deaconess Carolyn Mack, the Deacon Board and Deacon Henry Smalls Sr. will present Kimberly Wilson. She is performing her one-woman show, “A Journey,” which she also wrote, that deals with struggles of black women and dealing with strength, pride and dignity.

She is a singer and actress and seven women, taking on roles from seven generations, will share their stories through singing, dialogue and movement. The historical women represented will be an African queen, a slave woman, Harriet Tubman, Sojourner Truth, Rosa Parks, Maya Angelou and others.

The performance will be at 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, at the South Norwalk Community Center, 98 S. Main St. Tickets are $15.

Mayor Harry Rilling, State Sen. Bob Duff, State Rep. Bruce Morris and Councilman David Watts are due to attend. The public is welcome, but seating is limited, so tickets should be purchased in advance.
