Hosted by the Mayor's Energy and Environment Task Force, Santa Energy and New England Smart Energy Group, the workshop will give residents the opportunity to learn more about energy-saving programs available to them. The workshop will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Community Room of Norwalk City Hall.

"Everyone who attends Thursday's workshop will walk away with the information they need to dramatically reduce their energy costs," said Councilman John Kydes, task force chairman. "I highly recommend that any Norwalk resident with a utility bill come and learn how to make their home energy efficient."

Among the programs residents will learn about is the Home Energy Solutions service. The program includes a home energy audit, where a specialist will come inspect a residence and identify ways that it can be made more energy efficient in an effort to reduce utility costs and make the home more comfortable. Since launching its Energy Challenge last year, the city has been encouraging residents to sign up for audits.

Last year around 200 residents signed up for home energy audits, which officials estimate saved between $50,000 and $100,000 on home energy bills across the city. For every Norwalk resident that completes a Home Energy Solutions appointment by Dec. 15, a $75 donation will be made to the Mayor's Student Engineering and Science Program at the Maritime Aquarium. The program grants 50 seventh- and eighth-grade students a free behind-the-scenes look at the aquarium and its programs during the summer.

The workshop Thursday night will also provide residents with information on Solar Systems, and the benefits of proper insulation and high efficiency heating and cooling equipment. Representatives from Santa Energy, Eversource and New England Smart Energy Group will be on hand to answer questions related to costs, benefits, rebates and how to sign up for programs.
