NORWALK, Conn. -- The Norwalk Arts Commission announced the release of a new short film, which captures the stories and memories of people whose faces and families are depicted in the city’s WPA murals.

The event will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday at Norwalk City Hall, 125 East Ave. in the council chambers on the third floor. Following the film, docents will offer free guided tours of the restored mural collection from 10:30 a.m. to noon, in conjunction with Connecticut Open House Day.

Those interested also may sign up for a special, 60-minute bus tour to nearby sites depicted in the murals, as well as a visit to several restored murals in other Norwalk locations. All activities are free. To reserve a place on the bus tour, visit tinyurl.com/ojmokhw .

Norm Bloom, Dave Hopp, Lee Seymour and Ralph Bloom are among those who share memories in the film, along with family members of artists Alexander Rummler, Justin Gruelle and George Avison. The video was written and produced by Norwalk resident Marge Costa with money from the National Endowment for the Arts.

“This video really shows the artists as real people whose paintings were inspired by everyday life," said Costa in a press release.

“Events like this are part of the Commission’s ongoing efforts to promote pride in Norwalk’s rich cultural legacy," said arts commission chair Susan Wallerstein in a press release.

Norwalk WPA mural videos will be available on YouTube following the premiere.
