Norwalk Mayor’s Ball To Benefit Open Door Shelter, Human Services Council

NORWALK, Conn. -- The Open Door Shelter and the Human Services Council will receive the proceeds from the 2016 Mayor's Ball, Norwalk Mayor Harry Rilling announced Tuesday.

The Open Door Shelter, located in Norwalk, offers services to the homeless and working poor, providing shelter, food, clothing, case management, and transitional planning for subsidized housing, education, employment and a path towards independence and success. The shelter owns and operates a number of private residences that are rented on a subsidized basis to those who are working. .

The Human Services Council, located in Norwalk, creates and fosters programs that educate, safeguard and empower people. HSC develops and supports services for children, individuals and families. Programs include alcohol and drug prevention services, supportive housing, child advocacy, and the Dr. Robert E. Appleby School Based Health Centers.

The Mayor’s Ball, established as a non-profit charitable institution, is held each January to benefit local charities. The 2016 Mayor’s Ball will be held on Friday, January 29 at 6:30 p.m. at the Continental Manor in Norwalk.

Tickets are available at $100.00 per person. Tables of ten can also be reserved. Make check(s) payable to the “Norwalk Community Benefit Fund.” Call Maritza Alvarado at (203) 854-7950 no later than Friday, January 20, 2016 to make reservations.

Donations of silent and live auction items produce the major portion of the Mayor’s Ball proceeds, and can be made by calling Sally Johnson, executive assistant to the mayor, at (203) 854-7707. Tax-deductable contributions to the Mayor’s Ball can be made at any time.
