NORWALK, Conn. -- The Norwalk Arts Commission will hold an opening celebration at the Mayor’s Gallery in conjunction with the new show titled: “Community of Dreams: Recognizing Norwalk’s Diversity.”
The opening reception is set for 6 p.m. Wednesday and will feature remarks from Norwalk Mayor Harry Rilling.
Mayor’s Gallery curator Melissa Slattery said: “We have invited Norwalk elementary, middle and high school students to share their dreams for Norwalk to create this new show in the Mayor’s Gallery. Through writing and photography, their dreams and portraits offer visitors to Norwalk City Hall a wonderful picture of diversity in Norwalk today, and indicate that Norwalk’s future will be enriched through our diversity of dreams.”
Rilling and more than 70 members of the community contributed their dreams for Norwalk for the exhibition. Rilling’s dream for Norwalk was that “no child will go to bed hungry so all of our children can succeed in getting good educations, because they're well prepared to focus on learning.”
The Community of Dreams project is also a public Facebook group, and everyone in the community can add their voice to the project. Those who wish to participate can use this link. Participants can upload a written response and add a self-portrait/or image to share their dream for Norwalk.
The gallery is on the second floor of Norwalk City Hall, 125 East Ave.
