The High School Pizza & Books discussion runs 6-7 p.m. in the Main Library Teen Room for students entering grades 9-12.
Quintero's first novel uses journal entries to tell the story of 17-year-old American-Mexican Gabi, who feels caught between two worlds while she's navigating conflict both at home and in her social life.
The author confronts a gay teenager's coming out, teen pregnancy, date rape, abortion, addiction, and other topics.
The first 16 teens to register will receive a free copy of "Gabi" and the other nine nominated titles for Connecticut's high school Nutmeg Award.
For more information and to register, contact Lisa at 203 899 2780 x 15136 or estory@norwalkpubliclibrary.org.
The Nutmeg Book Award encourages children in grades 2-12 to read quality literature and to choose their favorite from a list of nominated titles. Jointly sponsored by the Connecticut Library Association and the Connecticut Association of School Librarians, the Nutmeg Committee is comprised of children's librarians and school library media specialists who are members of sponsoring organizations.
Isabel Quintero was born and raised in the Inland Empire of Southern California by Mexican parents who got here crossing the border, but met in the U.S. years later. She married her husband, Fernando, in a library.
