NORWALK, Conn. — While many partygoers will be toasting the new year with champagne, gamers at Game Haven in Norwalk will be toasting with energy drinks and competitive gaming.
“There’s going to be tons of video games and tons of cool people to hang out with,” Game Haven Owner Brent Goren said.
The all-night gaming event will kick off Thursday, Dec. 31 at 8 p.m. and conclude Friday, Jan. 1 at 8 a.m.
Gamers are required to pay a $35 entry fee, which includes 12 hours of gaming, dinner, BAWLZ energy drinks and breakfast to keep gamers “energized and fueled all night long,” according to Goren.
Goren said that many younger people have older siblings or parents who may attend New Year’s Eve events. But those events are not tailored to their age group.
The Game Haven gaming night is intended to fill this void. “This is an event that is specifically geared to make them feel included,” he said.
Attendees will range in age from 10 to adults in their early 20s. The store will offer activities tailored to different ages and interests, Goren said.
Following a midnight toast, a frequent customer of Game Haven will do a speedrunning challenge, meaning he will try and play a game in the fastest possible time.
“He’s got abut an hour and thirty minutes to beat his previous record,” Goren said.
The night will also include plenty of friendly competition among gamers, too. Each of the first five people to reach five ranked wins in League of Legends in the new year will win $100 in prepaid game cards, Goren said.
The gamers will also receive free energy drinks and goodie bags, according to Goren.
