New Canaan's Silvermine Arts Center Hosting Two Halloween Bashes

NEW CANAAN, Conn. -- The Silvermine Arts Center will celebrate Halloween with two events -- one for adults and one for kids.

Saturday's "Night of Wicked Fun" begins Oct. 25, at 7:30 p.m. for adults. And the Halloween Art Party for children of all ages will be Sunday, Oct. 26, from 2 to 4 p.m.

The "Night of Wicked Fun" will feature catering by On the Marc, with taco bars, wine, beer, margaritas, and seasonal desserts. Partygoers can browse and bid on affordable silent auction items.

Costumes are optional, but prizes will be awarded. The party will begin in the galleries, and guests can check out the current exhibitions: "The Mischievous Art of Jim Flora," Leslie Giuliani's "Undomesticated," and Kristina Küster-Witt's "Face to Face."

Guests will dine, then dance to music provided by the spirited disc jockey in Sara Victoria Hall. Tickets are $75 per person.

On Sunday afternoon, the Children's Halloween Art Party will offer a hands-on event for kids of all ages. Silvermine School of Art teachers Marta Kot, C. J. Guerin, Karen Siegel, Jeannie Thomma, and Megan Collins will guide kids in creative mask making, clay pumpkin making (with model magic clay), and a felting workshop, where they will make spiders and ghosts.

Kids can also paint a pumpkin-patch mural, join in a costume parade (although costumes are optional), and play a game by creating bats and pinning them on a spooky tree.

For each child, there will be treats, a Halloween movie, a goodie bag, and lots of Halloween art projects to bring home. Call or register online in advance so enough art supplies are on hand for each child's projects.

Children of all ages are welcome. Tickets are $12 for members and $15 for nonmembers. An adult must accompany children, but the adults enter free.

Call 203-966-9700, ext. 22 for information and tickets, or purchase tickets online at silvermineart.org.

The Silvermine Arts Center is at 1037 Silvermine Road in New Canaan.
