NCC Offers Mental Health Panel Discussion, Fair-Like Event For Students

NORWALK, Conn. -- Norwalk Community College will be holding a mental health panel discussion on Tuesday, April 21, titled "Emotional First Aid."

The discussion will be held in the NCC East Campus GenRe Forum from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. The audience will have an opportunity to have a dialogue with a panel of distinguished professionals who will answer questions on how to maintain total wellness of both mind and body. The panel discussion will kick off the main “Freshcheckday - checkin’ in with college students,” event which will follow on Wednesday, April 22. 

As part of the panel discussion, the following presenters will be on hand to discuss ways to achieve overall health: Tyler Griese of the NCC Wellness Center and a certified yoga and meditation instructor; Paula Santos, nutritionist; Jessica N. Bass, Day of Birth; Dr. Ann Asunto, family medicine practitioner from the Day Street Community Health Center Inc.; Dr. Tichianaa Armah, psychiatrist from the Day Street Community Health Center Inc.; Dr. David Hashemipour, a practitioner of integrative and Chinese medicine; Jeffery Hodnicki, psychiatric social worker; and Sara Jenkins from the South West Regional Mental Health Board. 

The second annual NCC “Freshcheckday- checkin’ in with college students” will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., in the East Campus parking lot at 188 Richards Avenue. The fair-like event offers students the opportunity to enjoy food, music, activities and get information about the mental health resources available to them both on campus and in the local community.
