Man Found Asleep At Wheel On I-87 In Westchester Charged With DWI

TARRYTOWN, N.Y. – New York State Police arrested a man on DWI charges overnight Thursday after answering a call for a disabled vehicle on Interstate 87 in Tarrytown with the driver asleep at the wheel and the motor running, according to police.

Troopers found 31-year old Joseph Berenguer of Poughquag inside his Honda Accord on the shoulder of I-87 near Exit 9 around 2:45 a.m., police said.

Berenguer was arrested and charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated after he was found to have a blood alcohol level of 0.019 percent, police said.

He was released to a sober third party and will appear in Tarrytown Village Court on Wednesday morning, police said.
