Jett will take the stage Saturday night during the festival, which will be held Sept. 5 to 7 in Norwalk. The U.S. Army Volunteer Band will play at 1 p.m. Sunday after a 19-year absence. Dozens of local and regional musicians will play during three-day festival, one of the biggest events held in Norwalk.

The annual Norwalk Seaport Association Oyster Festival was founded in 1978 and will feature three days of family-friendly activities and entertainment. New attractions this year will include the Nerveless Nocks Thrill Show, a group of aerial stunt artists who will perform feats such as motorcycle high-wire acts and daredevil stunts. There will also be a 65-foot Gondola Ferris Wheel with a light show. Returning favorites include the Arts and Crafts Pavilion, Paul Bunyon Lumberjack Show, the oyster slurping contest and Kid's Cove, which will be the largest ever this year and feature a Big Top circus by Center Ring Productions.

Jett is a singer, songwriter and guitarist best known for her work with Joan Jett and the Blackhearts. The group's biggest hit was "I Love Rock and Roll," which was No. 1 on the Billboard charts for two months in 1982. They were also nominated for a Grammy Award in 1989 for "I Hate Myself for Loving You."

Recent headline acts for the Oyster Festival have included the Village People, Soul Asylum and Wang Chung. The headline entertainment for Friday and Sunday nights will be announced at a later date, organizers said.
