Illustrator Greenlights Kids' Scribbling

Bubbling with fun, The Katonah Museum of Art becomes a cauldron of creativity with its afternoon of hands on activities on Make a Mark! Family Day, April 3, from 1-4 p.m. featuring a special visitor (via Skype,)  illustrator-author Peter H. Reynolds whose art is on display in the Museum's Learning Center. His exhibit, "The Original Art of Peter H. Reynolds: The Dot and Ish" pulls pictures from Reynolds’s “crea-trilogy” books, exploring creative expression and potential.  In them, Reynolds, thinks back to his own 7th grade math epiphany, when he was able to turn idle doodling into a teacher-approved math comic book.  In sharing his experiences, Reynolds urges kids to “make your mark, and see where it takes you.”In addition to the Dot and Ish books, Reynolds has written and illustrated other children's books, including "The North Star" and "My Very Big Little World." His illustrations were commissioned for the anniversary edition of Marlo Thomas's book, "Free to Be You and Me." Reynolds has also drawn the illustrations for books by Ellen Potter and Judy Blume. Also on Make Your Mark Family Day's map are art stations where several local artists encourage visitors to experiment with Dot Art, Tape Drawing and Watercolor Shapes, for large-scale and miniature projects, using tape, stamps, and found objects. Whichever way visitors go with their creative voyage at the event, the point is not to get somewhere but to leave your mark along the way. Admission is $5 for those age three and up. For more information, visit the museum's website . Tell us how you and your family are creative by posting below.
