The incident took place around 1:15 .m., Saturday, Oct. 31 in Southampton on Deerfield Road, said Lt. Susan C. Ralph.

According to Ralph, when police arrived on the scene of the crash they found a 2009 Honda Civic, with four passengers, had overturned.

The driver, Logan Gates, of Southampton, told officers swerved to avoid a deer, Ralph said.

Two of Gate’s passengers were transported to Southampton Hospital, one with serious injuries, the second passenger transported had minor injuries.

The others were unharmed.

An investigation found that Gates was allegedly intoxicated and he was transported to Southampton Police Headquarters where he was charged with DWI and unreasonable speed.

"With the holiday season fast approaching we would remind drivers to call a ride rather than risk the lives of others as well as yourselves," Ralph said. "The roadways should be safe for all who use them."
