NORWALK, Conn. -- When Lt. Tim Murphy was diagnosed with stage-4 cancer a couple days after retiring from the Norwalk Police Department, his fellow officers and the community decided to step up and help him in his time of need.

The "Fight! Murph! Fight!" hockey game will be Saturday to help raise money for Murphy, who served for 33 years with the department. He retired Feb. 26 after serving in a variety of assignments, most recently as a shift commander. He has taught at Norwalk Community College as an adjunct instructor of criminal justice.

"Lt. Murphy served this community for 33 years, and we're hoping that the community will come out and support him in his time of need," said Sgt. Terry Blake, a spokesperson for the Norwalk Police Department. "Lt. Murphy is not only a well-respected police officer, he is a phenomenal person."

The hockey game is sponsored by the Norwalk Police Benevolent Association and the Norwalk Police Union. Team Tim and Team Murph will square off on the ice at the SoNo Ice House on Wilson Avenue. The game will be from 4-7 p.m. and will be followed by a dinner at the American Legion, 60 County St.

Admission to the game is $10 per person, and the price of dinner will be $30 per person. Tickets to the game will be sold at the door. The dinner will be catered by Banc House and have a cash bar from 7-10 p.m. There will be live and silent auctions and special guests.

Additional donations can be made online , or mailed to Tim Murphy c/o the Norwalk Police Union, 1 Monroe St, Norwalk, CT 06854.
