Darien Library Hosts Teen Writing Contest

DARIEN, Conn. – Is the next generation of great writers living in Darien? The Darien Library will be hosting its third annual Teen Writing Competition to inspire local authors.

Teens can begin submitting their fiction, nonfiction and poetry to the library beginning Jan. 1. Submissions from grades 7 through 12 can be emailed to teenstaff@darienlibrary.org.

Entries will be divided into two categories: seventh through ninth and 10th through 12th. First-place winners will receive $100, and second-place winners will receive $25. All entries will be collected in a printed volume that will be available for free to the public.

The contest runs through Feb. 28, and winners will be announced at an awards ceremony March 31. All contest entrants and their families and friends are invited to the awards ceremony.

Fiction and nonfiction entries must be 1,000 words or less. Poetry entries must be 30 lines or less. Entries must be typed, double-spaced (except for poetry, which can be single-spaced) and use a simple 12-point font. Corrections and replacements cannot be accepted. The author's name must not appear on the entry itself, only on the cover sheet.
