Felden-WHAT?? … Feldenkrais (pronounced to rhyme with “paradise”) is one of NSC’s newest class offerings, and already it’s changing lives! AND ALL LESSONS ARE NOW DONE…STANDING OR SITTING IN A CHAIR.
Each week instructor Cathy Paine teaches a different movement lesson, helping students gently explore and improve such actions as bending, reaching, turning, standing, sitting, breathing and walking. “It’s not an exercise class—I’m helping people learn how to use less effort when they move.” The result is greater flexibility and comfort, improved breathing, lower blood pressure, and better balance. Daily tasks become easier to handle and moving can be pleasurable.
Doris Garret has been a class regular since November. Doris notices that she can now turn and look around more easily, and get up out of a chair with less effort, “and I just feel better!”
“I have learned how to stand up from the floor,” says Millie Lasker, “and how to roll over.”
Mary Jane Johnston has learned how she can loosen areas of discomfort without stretching, and feels like she has more control over her own well-being.
Each week instructor Cathy Paine teaches a different movement lesson, giving students a chance to gently explore and improve such actions as bending, reaching, turning, standing, sitting, breathing, walking, rolling, and getting up from the floor. “It’s not an exercise class - I’m actually helping people learn to use less effort when they move. The result is greater flexibility, and comfort with less pain and stress.”
Rose Gatto says the class relieves stress, “lubricates my joints”, and makes her more aware of her body. Mary Ann Jacobs says she feels taller and more flexible. Who wouldn’t want that? Classes are on Tuesdays, 11:00AM to noon, and the cost is only $3. Join us!
